I have never been into deckbuilders, and I have no interest whatsoever in MOBAs. My entire introduction to this game came from looking for an esports managment game and due to how dead the space is, I decided to give this a try and somehow it just clicked. The deckbuilding aspect is great, bans make every match feel different, and with the opponents banning your most picked/highest winrate heroes I am actually forced to experiment a bit. There are some really cool, varied mechanics to several of the heroes and a lot of synergies too. The actual team management part of the game is great even if it is a little bare, but as someone with thousands of hours in Football Manager games I very much enjoy dealing with player morale, interviews, contracts, transfers and the sort. Team customization is good enough, and the player name and looks variety is alright, though I have come across some duplicates, which especially in the case of names can affect immersion a little. The way training is done is quite unique but late into the game it becomes a bit of a brain melter. Players also have traits and tactical styles, the trait pool is quite small and they are mostly insignificant but the tactical styles are an actual great feature which make players feel different enough, in addition to the fact that they also have different card decks. Translation can be a bit rough in places but I have never found myself in a situation where it's so bad that I have no idea what something is for or does. I really like this game, at first it was really overwhelming, but that is kind of the point, you simply cannot retain all information relevant to you and have to make choices knowing you don't know all the parameters, then slowly you recognise what kind of things are important and which aren't, and you can start filtering out information you don't really care about. Very interesting I haven't really played many games like this. The 'game within the game' is also incredibly fun to play, I think it could have been way less interesting and developed and still feel like a fully realised manager game. The English translations on this game are so-so. Especially concerning mechanics this can sometimes be a little confusing but given you don't actually pilot the heroes yourself it is enough to understand what their general function is, so it's not a huge hurdle. I do have a gripe with the interface though. It runs you through all the things you need to do in a specific order, making it unclear sometimes at which point in the season/current process you find yourself. This is convenient when you're starting out. But as you start to understand the game better, it would be nice to have a master menu and manage training - purchasing - trading - level up decisions, etc. however you like. But my main issue with this is that this makes the game a little *too* hard to leave. There is no main map/menu/overview you can *hang out* in, making it feel more like you're continuously given an urgent task to complete, rather than feeling you're in control. I get that's what it's like in real life if you're a manager, but I'd rather leave this aspect of it in reality. I get why games are made addictive, but those have in-game purchases or advertisements, I already bought what you're selling. Besides that gripe. The game is incredibly well made and fun and I'd definitely recommend it *if* you have the time to spare.
Turning an esports management sim into a deckbuilder should not work, but somehow everything here comes together beautifully. Pick/ban is layered, items rotate in and out, patches determine different objective effects and rewards... it's all authentic to mobas in an addicting way. Adding deckbuilding mechanics on top of that formula really brings this over the top to be an experience that rewards your good decision making (and punishes poor decision making) in every match. Highly recommend!
