Timewarp fantasy, a really long one River Town Factory is quite an unique game. You just arrived to claim your inheritance when a dug-up building comes to life and sends you over 1200 years into the past where you find out the building is a sentient temple in need of repairs. Repairing its nodes lets you unlock more technology to build more things and set up manufacturing devices and conveyor belts so you can start to bring in the big bucks. Meanwhile your boon uncle is getting increasingly worried by the strange devices and noises coming from your workshop. The local town has a lot of friendly characters to meet, gift to and eventually woo. But doing so requires money and making money is not as easy as it seems. You'll learn swordplay, hone it through combat, do town quests like bringing wooden plates to repair a leaky roof, forage for fruits/fish/etc. while buying and upgrading resource sites. The repairs and story events do open up more of the map for you as well, but the process is a little grindy by the time you hit the third node. The grind is one of the gripes I could raise against the game. The Engrish level translation is actually charming, but may turn off some folks. And I'm a little worried that chests have a fixed numbering when placed that just goes up. With the amount of times you'll have to redesign your workshop factory yard, that'll be an issue if there's a 999 limit or something. And putting a manufacturing machine ahead of making glass and quartz is... not handy. Even so, I highly recommend this game. It's fun, its got some surprises and it's definitely cozy. One of the major surprises though is how many things there are to unlock in the tech tree. A further gripe on that end is that grinding for tech crystals can get a little excessive. But the game manages to surprise you even late game. Post game Finally finished it and it's been a doozy. Still heavily recommend it, but the last things to do in the game take forever due to the hard limits on oil, fuel, etc. even if the other resources are very abundant by then. 350h, practically, start to finish and it's been a real blast. I do have to add some to the critiques pile though: storyline content peters out around year 2-3 aside from the main quest and the game's engine needs more optimisation as it struggles to process fully filled workshop areas and cloud storage. The final house upgrade's a no go even then and the more you look at the tech tree, the more issues there are. It'd have been better if they'd gone with cooking oil vs packaged oil for rubber to mention one major bottleneck in late game production queues. But all the inconveniences aside, River Town Factory is a must-play game.

It's pretty fun. It's essentially a cross between stardew valley and a mix of automation games primarily satisfactory and factorio. The combination works surprisingly well. The English translation is pretty decent as well.

Factorio is a masterpiece. But somehow I enjoy this game more. It's the combination of - an exotic setting (ancient China) - a more interesting story - the social elements, a bit like Stardew Valley - the more *optional* combat - the mini-games - various little things (skills, the need to buy land, etc). Although there are still small bugs, it's a well made game. To the developer: Thank you for this game! Please allow me a few feature requests: - The ability to rotate templates - More diverse board tasks ("bring some stuff" gets boring very quick) - more soundtracks - AI-powered dialogues with the NPCs (a big feature, but would massively improve the social aspect of the game. Maybe as a paid mod?)

Loving how in depth the automation system goes. I am by ABSOLUTELY NO means good at this game, and it is still ending up on my favorites list. I upped my in game day time to 30 minutes and I can spend the full in game day just to barely optimize my current setup for iron and copper production. Only to realize my system can be further upgraded! This game has so much potential its insane, all 25 hours + 6 from tutorial have been spent having fun. Combat isn't anything to go insane about. Game has been translated to English very well. You see the occasional poor grammar or missing word, but it isn't detrimental to the experience.

River Town Factory is a mix of workshop (building/resource management optimization), and wuxia (top-down isometric action RPG with skills leveling up as they're used including the very much appreciated sprint which gives a short spurt of speed in all maps including town, workshop and wilderness (yes, it levels up and gets better with use too). There's gathering/mining, and social/romance aspects too, but those seem to take a supportive role rather than center stage. There's also time travel, but it's mostly just to start off the game and end it. The whole thing happens in a wuxia time period... with you having the advantage of technology, being able to tech up your workshop from wood to satellites. And yes, building cannon turrets and piloting a mech to defend the town from beast waves really does happen... if you want. The game has probably the best control scheme for any instance type (battle, workshop, beast wave) that I've had the pleasure of. Getting things done felt smooth, natural and quite seamless, with all the buttons I need to press often close at hand. I like the way the game makes things convenient. Teleportation stones, resources delivered straight to your supply boxes or backpack daily, builder mode for workshop, and especially the later stuff you can get from teching up, like blueprint functions (copy+paste entire blocks of buildings and settings), network warehousing (all networked supply boxes and input stations share the same growing inventory worldwide), increasingly faster conveyor belts and tunnels, full refund of resources upon removing constructs, gathering spots being few in number but infinite in how much you can gather... at one time I was tempted to spend all day mining and leveling up my labor skill with that, but in the end I felt it more worthwhile to just buy the mine and let the crew there send me the ores straight to my auto-smelter lines forevermore. There was indeed a time when I felt that just about everything in the game was almost perfect. After some thought, however, I do still find things to gripe over. First, it can get grindy. Depending on how you play it, there are times when it takes ages to develop to get to the next tech, or finish that next quest or upgrade your tools enough to get through that barrier in the ruins (dungeon) you want to loot. Second, Character Design. The NPCs all feel shallow. Like Stardew, the whole thing is by talking to them and gifting them at most once a day, with the occasional event scripted in. Each romance option, upon marriage, even brings unique powers to bear (no, nothing supernatural, just bonuses like higher prices for shipping goods). However, in the end, they just keep repeating the same lines, rotating between a few common phrases day after day.Maybe I romanced the wrong girl? At one point, I was truly annoyed with the character and almost wanted to ditch the whole relationship. Then again, half of the alternatives actually seemed worse. Third, limitation of how many quests you can take at any time. There's a mod in the steam workshop that changes this, and it's very popular. I also feel that some skill cooldowns are too long, but there's a mod that changes that too. Item stacks are too small... wait there's yet another mod for that one. Yeah, I love modders. In any case, I had a nice first playthrough, then uninstalled it a few days back thinking to try other games next... only to find myself reinstalling it and starting over a new game this morning. After playing this, I actually went and tried Roots of Pacha only to feel disgruntled at having to water the same plants repetitiously and feed the animals... I missed having hordes of automated constructors managing themselves without my having to micromanage everything everyday. I currently have both Stardew Valley and Roots of Pacha shortcuts sitting on my desktop, both of which I have fond memories of, but today, all my free time went to revisiting River Town Factory.
