I'm rewriting the review after fully completing it on normal with all characters and beating the extra stage with SanaeB UFO is a weird one for sure, the main way to get resources like bomb/life pieces is by combining different colours of UFOs, then shooting it down after it gained enough points/power to get a bonus, here are the possible combinations: -3Red Life piece + Bonus life piece -3Green Bomb Piece + Bonus Full Bomb -3Blue Points multiplier + Bonus Blue UFO (not really useful unless if you want to clear bullets shooting it down on a pinch) -1Red,1Green,1Blue Random UFO+ Bonus Random UFO (useful for clearing bullets and getting more colour combinations) Overall the main strategy is farming Resources on the first Four stages then surviving the last two, which sounds easy but in practice it's not, collecting said UFOs without getting hit can be really challenging so you'll have to memorize where they drop at more complex sections (also something really annoying is trying to get 3 of the same colour and the last one changes colour at the worst possible moment, breaking your chain which can ruin runs if you're not careful). The difficulty is higher compared to other Touhou games mainly due to the higher density of enemies and some RNG spam during stages, though if you're playing these in order you'll be prepared (god S.A was awful). One fun thing to note is that the Stage 5 Boss Shou Toramaru can actually be harder in some places compared to stage 6's Byakuren, mainly to the curved laser spam and some really nasty spellcards (I really despise Buddhist Power "Most Valuable Vajra", it gets real bad after the first 10 seconds). If you manage to beat Shou without losing too many resources you'll definitely like stage 6. The Stage 6 itself leaves you a bit of time to recover some resources with the UFOs (mainly bombs and life pieces) while also being a cute reference to space invaders (with the fairy patters and such). Byakuren Hijiri, the stage 6/final boss of this game is definitely one of my favourite fights ever in shoot em ups, It's a really tough test of endurance but the mix of nice effects, super cool bullet patterns (excluding the curved lasers), high tension and a theme that really gets the blood pumping makes it an amazing experience. Oh and the extra stage is a total pain in the nuts, you have a midboss with really annoying spellcards and the usual spam (while you try to gain life pieces without ruining the chain, which will force you to retry it a loooooot) till you get to Nue. And Nue is.. Jesus it's the most difficult Extra stage boss that I've beaten so far, the nonspells are decent but get ready for the enemy UFO spam during the spellcards , weird patterns and a really long timeout spellcard. Hey atleast the theme of Nue is fire though. The art style has improved dramatically over S.A and it has some really nice designs, also the ending drawings are cute, really love the simplistic look that they have And finally the music, it has some really nice tracks (personal favourites are Nazrin's, Murasa's and Byakuren's themes) Touhou Undefined Fantastic Object is a game that I really fucking hated at first but it has grown on me over time making it my favourite shoot em up, defo check it out if you're up for a nice challenge

without a doubt my favorite touhou game so far. the way the UFO system leads to interesting struggles during the stage portions of the game makes it probably the most gripping one in the series for me, as it's like playing a minigame on almost every screen. features some of my favorite music tracks and stages of the series, a great balance of fun, chaotic, and difficult spell cards, and yet another group of lovable weirdos. the extra stage is quite tough in this one, but i find it very compelling to try and complete as well (that being said, i have only made it to the 3rd to last spell card on nue...). i would probably say that while i still think touhou 10 is the perfect introduction and where i think most people should start at this point, this is the one i come back to most frequently.

I've never destroyed a controller, monitor, or anything while playing a video game. I will say though, I threw my chair the first time I captured the final spell card on stage 4. Mentally destructive game, but dang its good.
