One of the hardest, official Touhou games has such a good rating? Isn’t it kinda weird? I don’t get it… <SEVERAL HOURS OF LASERS, WEIRD CATS AND GAMMA RADIATION POISONING LATER> Okay, now I get it. Do not touch this if this is your first Touhou game. Do not touch this as your first shmup game. This game takes no prisoners. You will be moped around, shot, humiliated, tricked, hauled under the hell’s traffic accident and gain an unexplainable fear of black cats (DAMN YOU ORIN AND YOUR STUPID NON-SPELLS). That being said, this is one of the most fair experiences you can get from an extremely difficult game. Yes, some parts are not polished as much as they could be, but for the most part, Subterranean Animism likes to toy with you in a fair and square manner. No matter how insane those patterns look and how difficult they are to parse at first – you never feel cheated out of a Live or a Bomb. It is a genuine mark of achievement for ZUN, to go for such uncompromising design, while keeping players sane and ready for more. You will sometimes feel hopeless, but never frustrated. If you feel down a bit – don’t worry. I was there two. Parsee gave me issues, Yuugi was unforgiving, Satori is an endurance competition, fuck Orin and Okuu did vaporize me more than I can remember, but it is achievable… You can do this! I hope for your survival and that you will find new friends while visiting Former Hell.

Zun was really fucking drunk when he made this or something. If you're looking to get into Touhou this might not be the best entry point as this game pretty damn difficult compared to the others in the series. Shottypes are really weak this time around so you better pick up one and stick with it, i found marisa B was actually the most versatile and easiest to handle even in weaker power levels thanks to the spread shot, its still pretty easy to keep damage up at lvl 1 so you can really squeeze as much worth out of every life, especially if you plan out your bombs because they do tremendous damage albeit with short range. I feel like you're gonna really need the 3rd party practice tool for this one as stage 5 and 6 are extremely difficult and have a lot of curve balls thrown at you so practicing and studying all the patterns was really necessary for me even for my normal all clear. This one probably has my favourite songs out of any of the games so its really a treat if you get to see the whole game (wtf does the first boss have such an amazing song, sounds like something you'd give to a stage 5 boss).
