The best visual novel that I have ever read. Love the artwork and universe built up within this game. The writing was delicate yet grand and poetic. The overall structure was also excellent, being divided up into other stories, stories that you can also unlock in the extras which is a really cool feature that also adds overall content. The endings are also really good, even the bad ending, which was honestly my favorite ending with how tragic it really was. The good ending, is admittedly a typical good ending if I'm being very nit-picky but its not bad by any means and it still fits, it's just not as good as the other endings. The true ending, really cool and excellent. I also really liked the overall production and just, the style of everything in this game. I feel like this visual novel stands out from the crowd. This is my first 10/10 rating for a visual novel, out of the many MANY years of reviewing games.

its very cool and japanese folklore is interesting, but it is a bit of a slow burn.

An interesting premise, gorgeous and stylistic artwork, and a somewhat cliched but effective ending come together to make a good enough visual novel in Adabana Odd Tales. The story follows the duo of Shirohime and Kurofude as they travel between the worlds of different Japanese folktales, fill in the missing words in their well-worn pages, and interact with the "guide" of each story, the one character who can see and interact with them. I enjoyed seeing how these stories were depicted in the blurry and colorful art style present in Adabana Odd Tales, but admittedly they didn't resonate as much with me given that I heard primarily westernā€”not Japaneseā€”folktales during my youth. Since I targeted the normal ending during my first readthrough, the story offered few hints towards its truth as Shirohime and Kurofude jumped from story to story, so as the ending was revealed, it felt a bit sudden. (Also, the ending is a bit unoriginal in all of its formsā€”normal, bad, and trueā€”but regardless, I still found it quite effective at pulling on my heartstrings.) The added context that comes from selecting the correct choices to reach the true ending made that ending hit a bit harder and feel a bit more natural as the story transitioned from focusing on the folktales to focusing on Shirohime and Kurofude. And, I found the scene in which the four characters from each folktale they visited (who are actually Shirohime's grandfather, tutor, sister, and deceased fiancĆ©, respectively) guided Shirohime out of her dream and into reality to be surprisingly emotionally impactful. Still, with a first half that is a tad dull, anā€”while impactfulā€”ultimately derivative ending, and beautiful artwork that is in some ways better than the story itself, I can't say that Adabana Odd Tales is anything more than merely good. 7/10

I accidentally discovered this a while ago and the art combined with the unique plot description intrigued me (especially since I had a massive obsession with dark fairytales as a kid lol). Now I finally had a chance to play it and I'm really impressed! The story with all 3 endings turned out shorter than I thought/ hoped for but despite that I didn't find it rushed or anything so I don't mind that. I'm absolutely in love with the artstyle and the CGs, it's so pretty and I haven't played any game with a similar artstyle before. The music is lovely too and provides great atmosphere! I found the story mesmerizing, it's very strange/ confusing in the beginning but information slowly gets revealed until the pieces come together and the truth gets fully revealed. I really liked this whole concept and would gladly play something similar.

this visual novel is beautiful in every way. incredible art, incredible storytelling; i have cried so many tears over my hours playing this and they were all worth it for how beautiful the true ending was (and how much harder the story hit after getting the normal ending first). it's a little slow at first but if you stick with it for half an hour i promise it'll suck you in completely; if you love fairy tales and have tissues to spare i cannot recommend it enough.
