100% achievements review *Fun, Unique bullet hell gameplay *Engaging story that you want to see the end to *Currency system with Upgrades (tailored to YOU, I did not need even close to max upgrades to 100% the game) *Characters are cute *Game masters it's surrealist appeal *the Music is goated AND masters it's surrealist appeal Hard is NOT that difficult please complete the game on it first run-through, you will get the full game's experience and get all achievements. All in all this is honestly a masterwork in my opinion please give this dev your money and play this fun little game. It WILL surprise you.

This game consistently surprised me. To start, the gameplay of Aden is much simpler than I would normally expect out of a game like this, but it fits the length and unassuming appearance pretty well. The changing tides of the story kept me invested and left me satisfied. The art and music for the game is clearly unrefined, but put together makes for a cohesive theme that is both deliciously sweet and unsettling. Its overall very on-brand for what I expect out of an indie japanese horror game. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of japanese indie games and/or danmaku. That being said there are a few gameplay issues I had throughout. The beat-em-up style combat works better with an analog stick than a d-pad, but for the short (and very cute!!) rhythm sections it only registers an input when fully in a direction. This makes timing with an analog stick a bit frustrating. Even with a d-pad it was hard to tell if my timing was off or there's some kind of system issue with the game itself. Hitting enemies too felt unresponsive due to the side-scrolling nature of the game; although this is an issue with many 2D beat-em-ups. All this made the game feel a little more difficult than it actually is. Still, on normal I was able to beat the game only using a handful of continues. All that being said I do not lament the gameplay. The story and art alone I think is enough to make the experience worth it. Its great!! Play it!!!

Aden is a surrealist beat-em-shmup with bump combat. If you’ve played and enjoyed the dev’s previous game Yumecore I can recommend this without hesitation as it is similar in themes And atmosphere, but much more polished in execution. If Yumecore was a mediocre game with great vibes this is a good game with incredible vibes. The narrative and atmosphere are definitely the strong point here. The plot is quite interesting and has some very unique concepts and twists throughout. There’s certainly a flippancy to the writing and “lore” that makes some of its finer details feel not very fleshed out, though they’re certainly not supposed to be. The writing is genuinely funny and bizarre throughout and the characters are all enjoyable. I wish there was more minor dialog to flesh some of the characters out but it’s a good sign when my main concern with the game is that I wish there was more game. The music is also quite excellent, both as standalone compositions as well as how it is used in game. There’s a lot of clever leitmotif usage and musical timings that are always delightful. Some are even hidden for you to discover (try restarting on Nano’s fight and immediately skipping all dialog). Gameplay is a mixed bag. The dash to attack premise is inherently funny and works fine once you get used to it; but its beat-em-up nature means you spend a lot of time dashing right past an enemy at a slightly different depth than you, often leading directly into their attack. Tilesets later in the game will often have grids on the floor which makes lining up dashes way easier. I am unsure if this was intentional or not. If it was intentional, it would have been nice to have them in the early game as well, as the combat improves significantly once they are introduced. Boss fights are definitely the main focus here, and unfortunately it means that non boss combat is quite boring. Enemy designs are visually uninteresting and fighting them is often more frustrating than fun due to your very limited tool set. The grab especially seems like an actively bad move in 99% of situations which makes it not very satisfying to use. Despite my gripes with the gameplay I do love this game. I was enthralled from start to finish and always excited to get more dialog and progress its fascinating story. Also when you beat the game you will be missing a large number of achievements. I will not spoil how to get them but it is worth doing so

This is a wonderfully unique game with an interesting story and world setting and very colorful characters. At the base, the gameplay is tight and it feels great to pull through figh-- dances successfully with focus on dodging through battles similar to a bullet hell game. So for people who wanna try something charmingly new, I would highly recommend ADEN.

Wonderful little game. Sprites and characters are adorable and expressive, the music is just special and the core beat-em-up gameplay is very fast, solid, and just overall a lot of fun. Definitely a big boss fight focus. I recommend playing Hard mode as the victories feel so well-earned and you can use points to help make the game easier. A humongous step up from Yumecore-- can't wait to see the dev's next game in the future and looking forward to the soundtrack releasing as well. Thank you for translating your games for an English audience on release!
