I highly recommend diving into Megaton Musashi W without reading any plot summaries beforehand. The storyline is best experienced as it slowly unravels, peeling back layer after layer. The pacing is deliberate yet engaging, and by the end it feels like you’ve watched six seasons of an epic space opera anime. Lots of character progression, escalating stakes, and some powerful emotional beats. Unlike presenting the story scenes as a visual novel or through cutscenes, you will be exploring many different locations to interact with fully voiced NPCs, embark on optional quests, find collectable items and more. At any point during the story you can choose to revisit earlier locations, and the NPC's in those areas will all have updated dialogue reflecting your current progress. All of this is fully voiced, you can really tell that the developers cared a lot about making this world feel expansive and alive. It took me about 50 hours to finish the main story, but there’s still so much more to do. The game features a wealth of optional quests, modes, and new mechs and pilots added post-launch. It’s an incredibly generous and complete package, a true love letter to the Super Robot genre. On that note, Go Nagai, credited for creating the genre, is involved with this game, and there is free collaboration DLC featuring mechs and pilots from his biggest series - like Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, and more. The soundtrack is extremely well done, there are a number of really well produced vocal pieces that evoke classic 80's anime - and every song enhances the experience. In my 50 hours of playing I have never thought of muting the music or lowering the volume. There's also at least over an hour of high quality traditional animation here, and it isn't all front-loaded! You will continue getting rewarded with these pieces as the story progresses. The mechs are very customizable, and combat is very snappy with lots of cool abilities to equip. The special abilities hit hard and are extremely satisfying to pull off. If you want to ignore the story mode and just play multiplayer, there is at least a few hundred hours of content here. Big recommendation from me! I really feel like Level-5 has something special here.. it took me a while to finally sink my teeth into it, first impressions of the story and character design weren't great for me.. but by the end of it I only want more. I think Level-5 might be back! Hopefully this translates into success for them, they deserve it with releases like this.

13 Sentinels minus the brilliant art/story plus the ACTUAL ROBOT GAMEPLAY Welcome Back, Level 5 L5 Does Evangelion. the last of humanity lives blissfully unaware that outside their sheltered carefully curated lives in a safe heaven, the world is a wasteland where giant robots fend off the alien invasion that almost wiped us out and re-terraformed Earth to suit their needs. A team of youngsters with the ideal reflexes and neurological capabilities is assembled to go outisde and pilot the new generation of giant robots called Evas Megatons. The story unfolds in an open 2D sidescrolling rpg city while the combat gameplay is a full 3D (but not super expensive AAA, remeber, L5 is a AA dev that mostly comes from handheld games) mecha figther thats actually pretty fun. It invites comparisons to 13 Sentinels, another game I loved, but that drops the ball on the gameplay since the devs ran out of money and you dont really pilot the robots, you see them as dots on a radar (I'm still mad about that). But they made up for it with 10/10 art and a brilliant story. Which, yeah, this doesnt really match in those aspects but its clearly not attempting to be a Vanillaware title. The art and story we have here are actually pretty good too. So odious comparisons aside, both are great for different reasons. Cons/Caveats to keep in mind: [*]Mind that this is still story focused, and while they do add a lot of cutsomization and variety, its still a "cheap combat" that might feel like it lacks map variety or the scale doesnt feel very epic. [*]There seem to be vestiges of what was a once a F2P model? The game has many screen where you accept rewards one after another, there are login bonuses which get sent to a "mailbox" and theres a battlepass? None of that is necesary at all to interact with but its really rare seeing it there. Maybe at one point the multiplayer was f2p? [*] Remember it's a 1.5A game that feels like, i dunno a 3ds game? Might not be what you wanted for the price [*]Another gripe is the amount of cosmetic DLC and the fact that something as simple as victory poses needs to be bought separately. So yeah, those vestiges of a diferent kind of monetization and the fact that the scale of the combat feels a bit on the toyish side like Gundam Alliance SD rather than say AC6. I liked it as an arcady, charming robot action game, with a sidescrolling neat anime story on top. But Armored Core this is not.

Believe the other reviews with this one. You got a really cool, really fun flashy Fantasy Mech anime hack n slash Action RPG bogged down by microtransactions and odd FTP mobile game gotcha mechanics that don't really matter if you don't play the competitive online multiplayer. Get it on sale if you can, stick to the story and resist the urge to spend money on it and you'll have a pretty alright time worthy of 30 bucks.

While this is the third installment in the Megaton Musashi series, it'd be more apt to think of this as another expansion to the original Megaton Musashi released in 2021. This game contains all the content present in Megaton Musashi and Megaton Musashi X and adds plenty of its own content; as a result, Megaton Musashi Wired has hundreds of hours of content for you to sink your teeth into. The story is really compelling; you'll quickly find yourself hooked, looking forward to every story beat. However, I do have to admit the last few chapters feel rushed and aren't as good as the rest of the story, *especially* the last two chapters. Regardless, I really enjoyed the story; it's one of my favorites from Level-5. The gameplay is incredibly fun and addicting. There are a plethora of mechanics to work with, and the customization has quite some depth to it, though it can be overwhelming at first. Story missions won't pose much of a challenge, but the Dreadnought Missions will, especially in the endgame. Lastly, I'd like to talk about the live-service elements present in the game, which you may have heard about from other reviews. While the game does have log-in bonuses and a battle pass, they are not intrusive to the experience. In Wired, they only contain additional materials that you can already grind for; they do not contain exclusive content like weapons, Rogue parts, or Pilot skins. Additionally, the paid battle pass is a one-time purchase only available through the deluxe edition; you don't have to repurchase the battle pass whenever a new one comes out. The log-in bonus and battle pass are really just remnants of Megaton Musashi X's free-to-play roots. While I'd prefer if these live-service elements weren't in Wired, I ultimately don't mind their implementation here. Overall, Megaton Musashi Wired is an amazing mecha hack-and-slash action RPG from Level-5. I highly recommend playing it, even if you're not a mecha fan.

Some may compare this to Armored Core. In my opinion, it's more apt to compare this to Phantasy Star Online. There's a lot to like here if you're into the Super Robot genre. The customization is decent, the art style is great, and there's a decent variety of Super Moves. The problem people might have with this game come down to the game design, though. As some have noted, it's not good enough as a dedicated co-op game. Much of it is single-player with story-telling in a similar vein to a normal JRPG, just with manga paneling and visual novel sensibilities thrown in. There's no actual roleplaying in it since you as a player don't make any choices. For multiplayer there is a PvP mode on top of a co-op mode, along with a live service element of Daily Login rewards and even Seasons like in other ARPGs. The netcode for these modes isn't terrible but it's not great either. The gameplay is also pretty unbalanced in the beginning and it can be difficult to get one's bearings, but the gameplay is also so easy for much of the playthrough that it can lead to frustrations. This is recommended only to people who understand that this is a fun action RPG with a big emphasis on story presentation and showing off the fun that comes with Super Robot tropes. This is not recommended to anyone who wants a highly polished Armored Core 6 competitor or an otherwise complicated mech game, because this game is not that.
